Baseball, Track Seasons Planned

Spring sports are in the planning stage at the Depot, with tentative arrangements completed for a baseball team and a track season.

Lt. B.A. Robertson, commanding officer at the naval barracks, will coach the baseball team.

A grandstand to accomodate 1,000 spectators will be erected south of the enlisted men's barracks. Work on the two bleachers and the diamond will begin as soon as weather permits.

One meet in the track season has already been scheduled by Lt. (jg) Roy I. Carriker, recreation officer, who will supervise the track program.

All civilian and Naval personnel are eligible to report for both baseball and track this spring.

Those who have had previous experience in high school and college are urged to report to Lt. Robertson and Lt. (jg) Carriker, who will keep the men posted on practices.

Analysis:

This article shows the popularity of sports at the Depot. A set of permanent bleachers were being constructed to hold 1,000 spectators, a significant portion of the Depot population.
